SIERRA NEVADA MOUNTAIN SIDE
Located on the way to Riohacha and close to the Troncal del Caribe
highway, there is a large area on the Sierra Nevada mountain side which
features exuberant tropical vegetation, typical of the mountains, and a
more tempered climate than the one you can enjoy elsewhere in the city.
POZOS COLORADOS AND BELLO HORIZONTE
Located between El Rodadero and Santa Marta’s airport, this area is fringed by a large and beautiful beach. It also boasts a remarkable hotel industry development, that includes high class hotels such as Santamar Hotel, Irotama Golf Resort and Marina, Zuana Beach Resort and Decamerón. The main road is the Troncal del Caribe highway. In addition, this area has a cab station located at the Zuana Hotel which is easy accessible by phone.
RODADERO
The main tourist area of Santa Marta and its surroundings, offering a modern and comfortable tourist complex, including all kinds of attractions and amenities such as beaches, nautical sports, casino, night clubs, shopping and fishing.
RODADERO DOWNTOWN
This is the area where most of the restaurants, banks, bars, discos, stores and general tourist services are located.
RODADERO RESERVED
Also located in El Rodadero, however far enough from the noisy environment of the beach activity or the night life. It is an ideal place to live close to all amenities and services, but quiet at the same time.
RODADERO SOUTH
This area houses the new residential development sector in El Rodadero, fringed by the Tamaca Avenue, and also has wonderful beaches, Playa Salguero being the most important one.
DOWNTOWN SANTA MARTA
Quiet city, seat of the departmental and district government, and numerous universities, schools and health institutions. Boasts precious colonial Hispanic architecture in its government buildings, the many museums and the suburbs of the old city.
Its commercial zone is located in the surroundings of Carrera Quinta, where you find everything from clothing and shoe stores to supermarkets, banks, etc. Santa Marta has two modern shopping malls, Ocean Mall and Buenavista, with retail stores from national and international franchises. Santa Marta also offers quality restaurants featuring local and international cuisine, and modern discos and bars; being considered a small city, it is very cheap to get around. It has a sufficient number of buses and routes that connect the downtown core and its surroundings, as well as an affordable and efficient cab service.
HISTORIC CENTER
In front of Santa Marta’s bay, where the port is located, you find the historic center, which has been declared a national monument of Colombia and a property of cultural interest, a well-deserved recognition because of the old architecture, the urban harmony and the mixture of different architectural styles that have been a true testimony of the presence of many generations.
Santa Marta’s bay, the most beautiful bay of South America, is fringed by a ridge, designed especially for locals and foreigners to enjoy the magnificence of the view.
NORTH
Santa Marta expands itself to the north in several districts, including the area of Pescaito, the birth place of many famous Colombian soccer players, such as Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama, Jorge Bolaños, and “pitufo” de Avila.
BAVARIA
Mostly a residential area, its name comes from being very close to a beer factory located in the zone. Its closeness to the historic center and shopping areas, without being included in them, makes it an appealing and highly desirable area for living.
TAGANGA
A quiet and picturesque fishermen’s town, a paradise for scuba diving lovers. Very close to beautiful virgin beaches where you may get by walking short distances, along the coastal mountains, enjoying wonderful ocean views, or by motorboat, all unforgettable experiences. This little town offers a relaxing and beautiful panoramic view of Taganga’s tranquil bay, pristine waters and also the marvelous fresh seafood based local cuisine, without forgetting the warmth and kindness of locals.
